When people think about the cleaning industry they often don't realise that we are a 24/7, 365 days a year industry! That's right. Here at Green Clean we have cleaners operating most hours of the day, everyday and even on Christmas day!
So I think we should all spare a thought, a moment of reflection for people across the country working this Christmas.
My usual Christmas routine has traditionally followed this pattern. Wake up, check if Santa has been, help Mum with the Christmas lunch prep, unwrap some presents, give some presents, get the table ready for Christmas lunch. Roast turkey with all the trimmings is traditional in my family home. Usually a salmon mousse to start and a Christmas pud to finish. A lengthy dinner with wine, crackers, bad jokes and Christmas hats. The cats wondering round, hoping for scraps of turkey dropped onto the floor. The evening is spent with more presents, games and some cheese. Some nice wine and maybe a port or baileys. These days I have my own home and we do tend to follow the traditional pattern.
I used to try to abide by a no work on Christmas day policy for Green Clean. For the first few years this worked well, I was relaxed knowing that there were no cleaners working. For that 1 day a year I was content to know the phone would not ring and I had nothing to worry about. However last year we had our first request for Christmas day cleaning!
I have always known that the cleaning industry has unsociable hours. I am used to it. Our work mobile phone is always on and management are available in an emergency. Cleaners are at work when we are having our dinner, when we go to sleep, whilst we sleep and when we wake up in the morning. When you think of who works on Christmas day you will commonly think about the care industry, the emergency services, the doctors and nurses. I doubt you will think about the cleaners. But for the emergency services, the care homes, the hospitals and emergency vets their premises still need to be clean. Even on Christmas day!
Our Christmas day client list is minimal. The majority of our clients like us will shut up shop for the festive period and the cleaning hours will be light. A well deserved rest for us all. However we do have a few clients who don't shut down on Christmas day. So spare a thought for them at work on Christmas day and for our cleaners going into work on Christmas day to make sure their work place is ready for them.
And for your information; the Green Clean Christmas hours are as follows:
The Office will be open as usual up until Wednesday 23rd December. We will be on the mobile from 24th December through to Tuesday 29th when the office will reopen. We will be operating skeleton staff over the New Year bank holiday before we are all back to normal on Monday 4th January. Cleaners will be working to clients requirements over the Christmas period and this will have been arranged in advance. If you do contact us over the Christmas period please bare with us as we may take a little longer to return your call!
Happy Christmas everyone from all at Green Clean!
